Nigeria To Build 1,650 MW Hydropower Plant At $3Bn

Nigeria has granted the green light for the $3 billion development of a 1,650 MW hydropower facility.
If the project is completed, it will go down in history as one of the greatest power projects ever.
The project would be located in the north central state of Benue and sponsored through a public-private partnership.
Vice President Yemi Osinbanjo’s spokesperson, Laolu Akande, issued a statement.
Akande did not specify a start date for building, though.
Increasing power supply is anticipated to be the primary priority of President Muhammadu Buhari’s successor, who will take office after the 2019 elections.
Due to Nigeria’s poor transmission infrastructure and low power output, many homes and businesses are currently dependent on diesel generators.
Authorities announced this week that the government would give a concession to manage the $1.3 billion hydropower station in Zungeru, China, which will start producing energy in the first quarter of 2019.
