Nigeria Defence Troops Dismantles 34 Illegal Oil Refineries in Niger Delta

The Operation Delta Safe troops dismantled 34 illegal oil refineries in the Niger Delta as part of their steadfast and unrelenting objective to combat criminal activity.
Major-General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media missions at Military Headquarters, led a news conference in Abuja on the successful outcomes of their most recent missions.
Buba said that during this time, one of the most notable accomplishments was the discovery and subsequent destruction of 34 illegal refining plants. These locations, infamous for their role in the illegal refining of stolen crude oil, have long been a hub for criminal activity in the region.
The army’s rapid and determined operation to demolish these structures signals a big step towards disrupting the illegal oil traffic that has plagued the Niger Delta for years.
In addition to disrupting these illegal operations, the forces captured 59 people accused of engaging in a variety of criminal acts, including oil theft.
This preemptive approach sends a clear message that illicit acts will not be tolerated, boosting regional security and the rule of law.
He said the military’s efforts went beyond the destruction of illegal refining sites and the arrest of suspects. They also targeted criminal infrastructure, destroying 38 dugout pits, 21 boats, 57 storage tanks, 10 cars, three tapping pipes, four drum receivers, 89 cooking ovens, six pumping devices, and three outboard engines.
By destroying these vital components of the criminal enterprise, the forces have hampered their ability to carry out illicit actions successfully.
He added that the military recovered a significant amount of stolen resources in their tireless pursuit of justice and mission to combat oil theft. 696,250 litres of stolen crude oil, 54,400 litres of illegally refined AGO, and 1,200 litres of PMS were recovered. Furthermore, the troops seized two motorcycles, four firearms, and 78 rounds of ammunition, complicating the operations of criminal organisations in the region.
These outstanding accomplishments show how committed the military have been to preserving safety and peace in the Niger Delta. Their vigilance and proactive actions have not only reduced illicit activity but also helped create a safer and more stable environment for the locals.
According to him, the soldiers of Operation Delta Safe are unwavering in their commitment to their job to secure the area and safeguard the interests of the Nigerian people in the face of these difficulties. They continue to be an inspiration to everyone who cherishes peace, security, and the rule of law in the Niger Delta region and beyond because of their unwavering commitment and operational prowess.
These courageous soldiers are a ray of hope for the Niger Delta and a testament to the Nigerian military’s dedication to upholding peace and security throughout the country as they continue their arduous efforts to battle criminal activity in the area.
