Fuel scarcity ends in September – NOGASA

The National President of the Natural Oil and Gas Suppliers Association of Nigeria (NOGASA), Benneth Korie, has expressed optimism that the country will achieve full petroleum availability by September when the Dangote and Port-harcourt refineries commence full operations.
Korie stated this while addressing key challenges affecting the oil and gas industry at a press briefing on Wednesday in Abuja.
While applauding Aliko Dangote for his investment in Nigeria’s largest refinery, which he believes will enhance supply and competition, Korie called for the inclusion of various stakeholders, including NNPCL Trading and Retail, Depots and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN),, Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Petroleum Products Retail Outlet Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN)., and NOGASA, in the distribution process to ensure widespread availability of petroleum products.
Additionally, he expressed hope that Dangote’s refinery and the shift to Naira transactions could reduce prices for Automated Gas Oil (AGO), leading to lower transportation costs and market prices.
He also urged the Federal Government to expedite the Port Harcourt refinery’s opening in September to alleviate current shortages and improve distribution channels.
In support of economic stabilization, the association’s leader endorsed the President’s directive to sell crude oil in Naira and urged refineries to reciprocate by pricing refined products in Naira.
Addressing the challenge of smuggling, Korie called for a redesign of distribution channels and enhanced security measures at border points. He also proposed the use of logistics and surveillance drones to combat illegal activities effectively.
Korie, who stressed the importance of prioritizing agriculture to address inflation, recommended increasing budget allocations for agriculture, and advocated subsidizing inputs, as well as encouraging modern farming techniques through the deployment of extension workers. He also highlighted the need to improve Nigeria’s transportation network, particularly railways for bulk cargo and road networks, noting the importance of timely contractor payments and emergency repairs.
Korie voiced concerns about multiple taxation, and called for reform to create a fairer business environment.
He acknowledged the efforts of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) and urged them to ensure fair pricing and availability of products. He also called for the facilitation of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) kits and conversion centers, which marketers are ready to support.
“In conclusion, our joint efforts and timely actions in these areas will pave the way for a more stable and prosperous industry. I thank you for your attention and support as we collectively work towards these goals,” he said.
