NCDMB praises NLNG Train 7 Project for enhancing Nigerian content and economic growth

The Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), Felix Ogbe, has praised the strides in Nigerian content achieved through the Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) Train 7 Project.
His commendation came during a recent visit to the NLNG six-train plant, the Train 7 Project construction site and the NLNG Shipping and Marine Services Limited (NSML) Maritime Centre for Excellence (MCOE) in Finima, Bonny Island, Rivers State.
Welcomed by NLNG’s senior management, including Deputy Managing Director Mr. Olakunle Osobu, General Manager of Production Nnamdi Anowi, Train 7 Project Director Engr. Ali Uwais, and NSML Managing Director Mr. Abdulkadir Ahmed, Ogbe emphasised the project’s significant impact on local capacity building. He noted that the production of ancillary components and accessories within Nigeria has directly contributed to the project’s success.
He lauded the recent presidential directives on local content, which mandate that oil and gas sector contracts be awarded to local firms with proven capabilities. He described these directives as crucial to the achievements observed in the Train 7 Project.
Reflecting on the progress, Ogbe said: “The achievements we see today at the NLNG Train 7 Project reflect the NLNG’s steadfast commitment to Nigerian Content. This project exemplifies what we can accomplish when we support our local industries and talent.”
He further praised NLNG’s management for achieving an impressive 52 million man-hours on the Train 7 project with zero lost time injuries (LTI), expressing confidence in their continued success. “We will support you in achieving all your objectives for Nigeria’s development,” Ogbe assured.
Ogbe also acknowledged his predecessor, Engr. Simbi Kesiye Wabote, for his significant role in the project’s approval and success.
On the Maritime Centre for Excellence (MCOE), Ogbe highlighted its achievement as the first training centre in Africa accredited by the UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency (UK MCA) to offer certifications for STCW 2010 Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS) and Basic Liquefied Gas Tanker Cargo Operations courses. The MCOE, which supports maritime training and research, aims to advance maritime expertise in Nigeria and West Africa, with the backing of NCDMB.
Mr. Osobu praised the NCDMB’s steadfast support for the Train 7 Project, characterizing the partnership as a prime example of how public-private collaboration can drive industrial growth in Nigeria. He emphasized that NLNG’s commitment to Nigerian Content extends beyond regulatory compliance, positioning it as a core business strategy. “Our dedication goes beyond mere compliance; we embrace Nigerian Content as central to our vision of building a better Nigeria,” he stated.
Osobu also highlighted the economic impact of the Train 7 Project, noting that its addition will increase Nigeria’s LNG production capacity from 22 million tons (MT) to 30 MT per annum. This expansion is set to boost the nation’s economy, create jobs, and enhance Nigeria’s standing in the global energy market.
