Gas Explosion Rocks Italian Residents, Kills Family of Four

A gas explosion in southern Italy killed four members of the same family, including two small children, and partially collapsed their home.
The catastrophe took place in the village of Saviano, near Naples, when a two-story home was demolished by a bomb early Monday morning.
The victims include a boy and a girl, as well as their mother and grandma.

The Vigili del Fuoco, Italian firemen, said that the father and newborn infant were retrieved alive from the wreckage.
According to local media, the father is still in bad condition in a Naples hospital, and the baby’s injuries are not life-threatening.

The parents and their three children lived on one floor of the house, while the grandmother lived on the floor above,” the Vigili del Fuoco said in a statement.
Rescue personnel laboured throughout the day and night to rescue the victims, ultimately finding the mother at 16:45 and the grandmother after midnight.

The explosion happened at around 07:00 local time (06:00 BST). The specific reason is still being investigated, however preliminary ideas point to a gas explosion as the source of the collapse.
Drone footage from the scene revealed enormous breaches in the building’s roof, with much of the structure reduced to rubble.
The rescue effort, which lasted several hours and included the use of sniffer dogs, involved over 60 civil protection volunteers.
The fire department tweeted photographs of rescue personnel working into the night, meticulously sifting through rubble to prevent more collapses.
Still on the international scene, a county sheriff has been charged with murder after he shot and murdered a district court judge in the southern US state of Kentucky,
The Louisville Courier-Journal newspaper stated that Letcher County Sheriff Mickey Stines was placed under arrest for a gunshot that occurred in the Letcher County courtroom.
According to CBS News, he was charged with one count of first-degree murder.
The source was informed by a police spokesperson that the shooting happened following a disagreement between Judge Kevin Mullins, 54, and Stines in the latter’s office.
A motive for the incident has not yet been disclosed by the investigators.
The incident was verified by Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear in a post on X, previously Twitter.
“Sadly, I have been informed that a district judge in Letcher County was shot and killed in his chambers this afternoon,” Beshear said.
“There is far too much violence in this world, and I pray there is a path to a better tomorrow.”
In the United States, where there are more guns than people, gun violence is widespread.
Five individuals were hurt by a man’s bullet on a Kentucky roadway earlier this month. Wednesday saw the discovery of the gunman’s body following a 10-day manhunt.
Polls indicate that Americans want stricter gun laws, yet attempts to restrict gun rights are always greeted with strong political opposition because of the strong gun rights lobby, constitutional safeguards, and passionate culture around gun ownership.
