Ikeja Electric Slams Infrastructure Damage for Repeated Blackouts

Ikeja Electric Plc has issued a warning to commuters about reckless driving that could harm its energy infrastructure and result in total blackouts in parts of its network’s areas.

The statement was made by Engr Jamiu Badmos, Ikeja Electric’s head of quality, health, and safety environment, in response to the frequent incidents of automobiles colliding with power lines and other electrical infrastructure throughout the company’s network. He bemoaned the fact that careless commuters are colliding with electricity poles and transformers on a daily basis, claiming that such commuters run the risk of electrocuting themselves as the pole and lines can collapse on their vehicles, especially energized wires that may cause fire outbreak and fatalities.

He asserts that negligence, lack of attention, intoxication, worn-out tires, and excessive speed are the main causes of accidents. Low speed accidents could result in little property or vehicle damage, however high speed accidents frequently cause more severe injuries.

Jamiu warned Lagosians to drive carefully to prevent unintentional collisions with electrical infrastructure, warning that anyone who damages an electrical asset in Ikeja Electric’s network will be held responsible for the costs of repairs in addition to being charged for lost income during the outage.

Speaking further on a related topic, he said that Ikeja Electric’s management applauded traditional leaders, numerous associations, and security organizations for their tireless efforts to prevent vandalism of the network’s electrical infrastructure.

In order to prevent their communities from going without power, especially during the upcoming holiday seasons, he asked other stakeholders for their cooperation in the endeavor to ensure the safety of electrical facilities in their neighborhoods.

While promising customers improved services throughout its network, he cautioned them against engaging in any actions that might hinder the company’s efforts to deliver excellent customer service. He also urged customers to contact Ikeja Electric or report any suspicious individuals or activities near electrical facilities to security personnel.
