Indorama Eleme Petrochemicals Expands Power Output by 10 MW

Indorama Eleme Petrochemicals Limited (IEPL) and GE Gas Power have announced that they have successfully upgraded the third 6B gas turbine at the petrochemical facility in Eleme, Rivers State, as part of their ongoing operational improvement and power plant modernization programme.
The 5.1 Megawatts (MW) increase in output from this modernisation more than doubled the predicted increase in power output of 2.5 MW, bringing the total increase in power for all three turbines to almost 10 MW.
“Refineries have very stringent reliability and safety requirements. GE’s proven 6B gas turbine technology will bring added security and robust availability to the already high standards of Indorama s’ petrochemical operations.
“We are delighted by GE’s performance improvement package on our 6B turbine. It was executed on time to the highest standard of safety and quality. By increasing the availability and overall reliability of our power plant, we improved the performance of our operations, and we will be able to contribute to the nation’s economic growth,” a senior management official of Indorama Group of Companies disclosed.
By eliminating a combustion inspection and extending maintenance intervals between hot gas route inspections to as much as 32,000 hours, the improvement will aid in extending the life of the hot gas path component of the unit, increasing availability, and decreasing maintenance costs.
In addition, the improvement is anticipated to improve heat rate and increase output through better materials and airflows, extend the life of parts by up to 96,000 hours, decrease clearances and leaks, and enable higher firing temperatures.
Millions of people worldwide receive flexible, efficient, and reliable power from GE power plants.
With almost 70 years of experience operating in the region, GE has worked with energy stakeholders to introduce cutting-edge technologies that are specifically suited to meet the region’s needs for dependable baseload and flexible power.
In the area, GE-built technologies are supported by GE local service and maintenance teams to help ensure access to dependable and sustainable energy. GE provides across the entire energy ecosystem, from generation to transmission and distribution.
