The General Hospital, Onitsha, Anambra State, received a mammography center from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, TotalEnergies Upstream Nigeria Limited, operator of OML 130, and partners when it was finished.

Patients will have access to efficient, technologically advanced screening through the mammography center, which will aid in the early discovery, treatment, and decrease in breast cancer fatality.

The center is powered by a 40KVA generator for a steady power supply and is fully equipped with cutting-edge facilities, including the main reception and waiting area, radiology office, mammography technicians bay, changing rooms, clinical examination rooms, as well as treatment room.

The treatment room is equipped with Senographe Pristina 3D technology, which provides 3D imaging at the lowest radiation exposure with the highest diagnostic precision in the identification of breast cancer, as well as the Bard Magnum Breast Lump Biopsy set for image-guided breast lump biopsies.
This apparatus can process 120 tests per day and enables digital breast tomosynthesis and stereotaxy for improved image-guided biopsies.

With the mammography center initiative, more lives will be saved through early detection.

Luc Vanson, the Chief Operating Officer of Prime Oil and Gas, expressed his happiness at the mammography center’s successful completion and commissioning and noted that breast cancer is a serious health problem that needs to be addressed.

He advised the beneficiary community to put the centre to good use.
