NEDC begins sharing of rice to flood victims

The North East Development Commission, NEDC, has launched a relief effort to support flood victims in six North-Eastern states, including Borno, Adamawa, Yobe, Gombe, Bauchi, and Taraba.
The NEDC Managing Director, Mohammed Alkali announced the distribution of 200,000 bags of rice, 150,000 cartons of pasta, 250,000 gallons of vegetable oil, and essential non-food items like mats, blankets, and clothing.
This initial response aims to alleviate the suffering caused by severe flooding in the region.
Alkali ensured that lawmakers from affected areas would be involved in the distribution process to guarantee fairness.

Following his recent tour of flood-affected regions, Alkali emphasized that this aid is part of the NEDC’s short-term plan, with additional support to follow.

He noted that the urgent need for action was heightened by the recent flooding in Maiduguri, caused by the Alau Dam’s breakdown.
