The Chairman of Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Area (ONELGA) in Rivers State, Hon. Prince Isaac Umejuru, has marked his first 100 days in office with the commissioning of eight developmental projects and the rollout of empowerment initiatives aimed at boosting economic growth in the region. Hon. Umejuru, who was elected under the Action Peoples Party (APP) in October 2024, officially inaugurated the projects on Saturday, February 1, 2025. The projects, strategically located across the six geopolitical zones of the local government area, were commissioned simultaneously by key stakeholders and government officials.
The projects commissioned include:
- Healthcare Centre, Okpurukpuali – Commissioned by the Rivers State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Adaeze Chidinma Oreh. * Assembly Hall in Obite – Named after the Deputy Governor, Prof. Ngozi Nma Odu, and inaugurated by the APP Rivers State Chairman, Hon. Sunny Wokekoro.
- Community Secondary School, Mgbede – Commissioned by Prince Obi Ohia.
- Ogbidi Ultra-Modern Market – Inaugurated by the Chief of Staff, Rivers State Government House, Dr. Edison Ogaranya Ehie. * Joint Task Force (JTF) Quarters, Omoku – Opened by Major Dyan Joshua on behalf of the Garrison Commander, 6 Amphibious Brigade, General Sanni Ahmed.
- Onelga Legislative Council Complex – Commissioned by the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Victor Oko Jumbo.
- Federal Agency Offices – Officially opened by former Rivers State House of Assembly member, Hon. Elemchukwu Ogbowu. * Livestock Market, Omoku – Commissioned by the former Caretaker Chairman of Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, Hon. Charles Orlu.
In addition to the commissioned projects, Hon. Umejuru distributed economic empowerment items, including industrial sewing machines, grinding machines, tricycles, motorcycles, and vehicles, to selected beneficiaries. The initiative, he said, was aimed at improving livelihoods and fostering self-reliance among residents of ONELGA.
