SITEI 2022 Conference: Nigeria’s Extractive Industry Needs Reform

The Nigerian extractive industry’s leading players and partners will assemble in Lagos to present solutions that will encourage investment in the sector.

The CSR-in-Action 11th Sustainability in the Extractive Industries (SITEI) Conference and CAHR Africa Awards 2022 will take place at Victoria Island in Lagos on November 22, 2022.

The Nigerian Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI), the Federal Ministries of Petroleum Resources (FMPR), Mines and Steel Development (FMMSD), Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Miners Association of Nigeria (MAN), Petroleum Technology Association of Nigeria (PETAN), and Zenera Consulting are among the Conference’s current and invited partners.

In cooperation with the Deputy High Commission of Canada, the SITEI Conference was established in October 2012 in Lagos.

The annual SITEI Conference, now in its eleventh year, will feature focused conversations and active dialogue among business, government, community, civil society, development institutions, academia, and the media.

This will increase community participation, transparency, and accountability, as well as gender considerations in the industry.

The centerpiece of this year’s SITEI Conference will once again be the distribution of the CAHR Africa Awards, which recognize and promote individual and corporate excellence in human rights and development throughout Africa.

Holistic Inclusion in the Extractive Industries is the theme for SITEI 2022, which aims to explore the reforms that are feasible with the application of national government and multilateral best practices recommendations for the exploration of mineral resources, with a focus on how the accruable benefits for suppliers, women, youth, business, and communities are equally advanced.

Speakers at SITEI 2022 are expected to include Rosa Malango, Director of the United Nations Regional Commissions, Sen. Gbemisola Saraki, Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Mallam Mele Kolo Kyari, Chief Executive Officer of the NNPC, Elohor Aiboni, Managing Director of Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Limited, Mrs. Alero Onosode, Chair of the NCDMB’s Diversity Social Working Group, Prof. Zacheus Olani, and others.

The Chief Executive and convener of SITEI of CSR-in-Action, ‘Bekeme Olowola, stated that “our objective at CSR-in-Action is to adopt an inclusive approach to tackling problems within the industry.”

We firmly think that the active involvement of a variety of key stakeholders is the only way we can actualize initiatives for the sector’s improvement, and SITEI offers a platform that is open and transparent for doing so.

Participants are welcome to check the organization’s website and can expect the typical entertaining conference with cutting-edge insights and networking opportunities.
